WHITEHEAD, A N
- Era: 1861 - 1947
- Location: ENGLAND
- Categories: PHILOSOPHY
An outstanding mathematician and logician, he also set out a metaphysical theory regarding the evolution of the universe in which every individual human being is more than a fixed physical compound. We are each inter-relatedly in the process of further enrichment, ‘lured’ by the initiating and co-creating God. At the same time, we have the capacity to damage this process. Accordingly he raised questions about the Aims of Education. His thinking has been a spur to the development of ‘process philosophy’ and ‘process theology’ and invoked extensively in the cause of ecology and environmental ethics.
