Leading figure in the development of Methodism  - a personally dedicated expression of the Christian faith, enthusiastic to share it with others, including Native American Indians. Regarded by many of his fellow Church of England ministers as misleading, his traversing the country on horseback for outdoor meetings was effective in generating followers for a simple faith, zealous morally to work and play for the glory of God.
