Israel Salanter was already a learned debater at the age of 10. He subsequently became a teaching rabbi with recognised authority across Orthodox Jewish community, especially in the field of ethics. He initiated the Mussar movement which popularised the religious ethics of Judaism, drawing on the Talmud and other Jewish literature. Moral education is a living curriculum which internalises the qualities celebrated in the tradition and in the lives of others.
