Carl Rogers was an American psychotherapist, greatly influential in developing and promoting a non-directive form of counselling which avoided preconceived theories. It is distinctive in focussing on the individual/client, encouraging them to talk openly and reflectively about themselves with a trusted counsellor or  in a collegial ‘encounter group’. Each individual is a moral end in his/her own right.
