RAUSCHENBUSCH, Walter

Walter Rauschenbusch was a passionate advocate of ‘Social Gospel’ movement. His Christian convictions were centred on a notion of the Kingdom of God whose norms were demanding a radical transformation of the current social order. His direct exposure to the living and working conditions in the ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ of downtown New York gave realism to all his writing and preaching. Education and prayer alike were agencies for moral and social  awakening.
