Pandita Ramabai was a social activist, who challenged dominant conventions from within Hindu, Unattached and then Christian starting points. Her own education and experience included several years in both the UK and USA. From a Brahminic family she chose a lower caste marriage. She went on to set up a school for child widows and continually campaigned in favour of educational provision for women.
