PITT, William
- Era: 1759 - 1806
- Location: United Kingdom
- Categories: POLITICS
Already Prime Minister at the age of 24, he retained that position throughout most of the rest of his life. The strengths which enable him to do this were administrative skills systematically applied, adroit but even-handed dealings with fellow parliamentarians, and vision for changes in the wider world of national and European politics. This was particularly necessary during the years of the French revolution, British presence in India, Napoleon’s campaigning and issues regarding Irish Home Rule. The moral dimensions of his policies were influenced by friendships with Jeremy Bentham (India), Adam Smith (economics) and William Wilberforce (slavery).
