PHENIX, Philip

His early career included national recognition as a theoretical physicist, work in the life insurance industry, air force meteorologist. Thereafter, especially from his base at Columbia Teachers College in New York his attention turned to the philosophy of education, rooted openly in moral and religious sense. In a succession of books he expounded the theme of an integral architecture of knowledge, comprised by interweaving ‘realms of meaning’. An educated person will discover that literature and the arts, religion and ethics coinhere with the sciences in creating overall meaning in life. At the heart of them all is wondering; no surprise that music and play are essential parts of the mix.
