OCKHAM, William of

  • Era: 1285 - 1349
  • Location: England
  • Categories: PHILOSOPHY

Important medieval philosopher, known for his rejection of any speculative claims to knowledge which go beyond direct experience. Hence the term 'Ockham's razor' - the simplest explanation is usually the best. He trusted in the authority of what is revealed in the Bible, but not the Church which has no power in the secular world.
