Powerfully articulate proponent of ideas challenging many political and religious assumptions. Democracy was worthless, theistic belief superfluous and Christianity slavish. In their place should be a proper affirmation of the superman potential of individual living. Perhaps because of persistent ill-health, his writings were more episodic than systematic, but none the less challenging for that.
