John Stuart Mill’s erudition was established for him by his father (age 3, Greek; age 8, arithmetic and Latin; age 12 ,logic; age13 political economy.; age 14 history, law and philosophy; and age 17 full-time office employment. Exposure from then on to Jeremy Bentham established his penchant for Utilitarian thinking which materialised in a succession of influential books, including those on the nature of freedom and on women’s liberation.
