Versatile academic author and story teller. Born in Belfast, independent school/private education, followed by Oxford studies, shortly interrupted by army experience in WW1, but continued with degrees in classics, philosophy and English. His writings extended over Medieval and Renaissance English literature, science fiction, children’s books and Christian apologetic. He had a strong moral sense, explored in his study of love and correlated with what he claimed is a cross-culturally common morality, but open to temptation which could be devilishly persuasive and derailing.
