Short story writer and novelist, she wrote with a continuing moral and political edge. In this she drew on her own experiences living in Southern Rhodesia and her judgement that white civilisation had had a sterile effect on Africa. She pursued the peaceful realisation of social justice, but found it continually challenged by the impact of its absence on personal health or the common reality of violence.
