Lalleshwarif or Lalla, female yogi and poetess, of whom little is known for certain. Anecdotally, mistreatment by her mother-in-law led to her abandonment of marriage and with it the wearing of clothes. Detached from social conformities found meaning in discovering the Lord of the Universe - Siva - inside herself and extending outward. This she expressed in pithy poetry, prized in Kashmiri tradition. Her attraction to Sufi Muslims was reciprocated.
