Christian prophet, healer and martyr who worked for independence from Belgian colonial rule in the African Congo. He continues to be respected as the founder and exemplar for the more than 3 million members of the church he founded. It was the first African Independent Church to become a member of the World council of churches. It is active in promoting education, health and co-operative housing and farming, rejecting polygamy and drug use. Web-accessible resources in English are difficult to find.
