KABIR

  • Era: 1398 - 1448
  • Location: India
  • Categories: RELIGION

Widely esteemed poet and mystic, passionate about humanity. Associated with both Hindu and Muslim sources in his background and prospectively with both the emergent Sikhism (hence his writings in the Adi Granth) and the later Kabir-panth sect (as reflected in their Bijak). He was morally scathing about the external habits of institutional religions, favouring instead an attitude of personal reverence and love for all. Many of the reported details of his life are the stuff of legend as is his appropriation of his name in today's youth culture
