HIRSCH, Samson
- Era: 1808 - 1888
- Location: Germany
- Categories: RELIGION
During a period of increasing popularity of Reform Judaism, Hirsch established a model for Orthodox Judaism in Frankfurt, widely imitated elsewhere. He explained the Commandments in ways that brought out their moral meaning and force. Education of Jewish people young and old was needed for their moral reform – rather than the temptation to adapt and reform traditional religion.
