HEGEL, G W F

Philosopher and theologian who saw philosophy as setting out in rational terms what is already known and expressed in the language of religious myth. Education is the process of self-realisation, the development of the human spirit, thereby becoming self-aware and free. Consciousness of God is the other side of the coin of human self-knowledge and most fully realised in Christianity but anticipated also in other religions.
