FAULKNER, William
- Era: 1872 - 1952
- Location: United States
- Categories: LITERATURE
Thoroughly American novelist and screenwriter from the ‘Deep South’ who uses ‘stream of consciousness’ to convey an awareness of the interweaving complexity of emotions and motives in shaping the living fortunes of individuals and families. Much of his writing and the reading thereof, which engages with issues of class and culture, race and sex, and relationship with the natural can be seen as an exercise in moral education. In his own words a re-learning of “the old verities and truths of the heart, the old universal truths lacking which any story is ephemeral and doomed — love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice.”
