Sir Edward Evans-Pritchard a social-anthropologist with extensive ethnographic experience in E Africa among the Nuer and Azande peoples, he challenged what he considered to be reductionist accounts of human behaviour. He did this by giving careful attention to symbolic actions including sacrifice and interpreting the moral and religious meanings found in social structures.
