Thomas Stearns Eliot, writer of poetry, plays and critical essays on contemporary society. He spent the first half of his life in the US, then relocated as a citizen to the UK. Much of his writing was concerned with exploring beliefs which he could live by. Though these were finally identified as Anglo-Catholic, they never lost a degree of doubt.
