DAY, Dorothy

  • Era: 1897 - 1980
  • Location: United States
  • Categories: RELIGION

American activist and writer, distinguished by the continuity between her radical political views and her Christian faith. From early exposure to the effects of the San Francisco earthquake, through the Great Depression, the Hiroshima atom bomb, Cuban revolution and all subsequent occasions of suffering, whether near to hand or distant, she insisted that moral integrity had to be lived. Roman Catholic and political establishment were continually subject to her scrutiny and challenge, but by her own deeper sense of nation and church and not their passing rejection.
